On April 27, 2026, Trina Solar announced a record efficiency of 28.0% on a THBC (TOPCon-compatible Hybrid Back Contact) cell, certified by ISFH in Germany. A few hours later, on April 28, LONGi responded with 28.13% on the HIBC cell, also ISFH certified, and with 26.4% module-level efficiency certified by NREL in the United States.

This isn’t a press release competition. It’s a sign that hybrid back-contact technology is becoming the gold standard for the next purchasing cycle. LONGi closed Q1 2026 with 46 GW of in-house HPBC 2.0 capacity plus 11 GW in collaboration, for a total of 57 GW, and is targeting around 100 GW of BC capacity by the end of 2026.

Inside HPBC 2.0 technology: what's different compared to TOPCon?

1. Zero busbar on the front: more light, premium aesthetics

The back-contact architecture moves all the electrical contacts to the back of the module. The front is completely black, with no visible metal grilles. This means two things for you: a premium residential customer who no longer has to worry about aesthetics, and a net gain in light absorption that the manufacturer quantifies as +5W of power thanks to the 6.5% reduction in energy transmission distance.

5. Annual degradation of 0.35% and 30-year guarantee
The product warranty is 15 years, and the linear performance warranty is 30 years, with first-year degradation limited to 1% and annual degradation of 0.35%. For your C&I customer, this means a recalculated payback and bankability that rivals any Tier 1.

Hi-MO X10 price: where it stands today

The HPBC 2.0 mass-production modules reached an average power of 650-660W in 2025, peaking at 670W. The technological premium compared to the standard TOPCon translates, in the field, into higher annual yield per kWp installed and better performance in real-world conditions (heat, partial shading, low irradiance).

On a 6 kWp residential system, the delta does not significantly affect the payback. On a 500 kWp C&I with a high self-consumption rate and limited coverage space, the +1-2 percentage points of absolute efficiency significantly reduces the LCOE.
